Mans Ruin – Health and Safety
Summer 2011 brings with it a new sound in the form of the new funkalicious album from Man’s Ruin – ‘Health & Safety’. Tight, Funky, unique and dirty with a distinctly Scottish flavour, this recording is the culmination of over a year’s work which has seen the band performing live on Radio Scotland’s Global Gathering, Glasgow’s Celtic Connections festival, Aviemore’s Insider Festival and all across Scotland. This album is a natural progression from Calum MacCrimmon’s original groundbreaking cross-funkinating solo album of 2009 (entitled ‘Man’s Ruin’), continuing to explore and break down the boundaries between folk and funk and making connections between electric and acoustic instrumentation, bringing together the singing voice’s of all members, Guitar, Bouzouki, Electric Bass, Drums, Flute and Bagpipes!
‘Health and Safety’ was engineered and produced by Barry ‘Spad’ Reid at La Chunky Studios, Glasgow. His expertise really pushed it in the direction that the band envisioned – A recording filled with flair, groove, good tunes and humour. Recording the album was immense fun and the band laid down the tracks in mostly live takes. The making of the album was documented by Somhairle MacDonald, evidence of which can be seen in our new music video for ‘Frantic Funk.’
